Keto Rulez (krlz.net) is a website about the wonderfulness that is the Keto Lifestyle.
Founded by Bryan Topscher AKA B-Top as a guide to help others with the Keto Lifestyle.
In high school, I ate like I was starving and nothing could satisfy my hunger. It was a running joke that I was a human garbage disposal. And while I had never been “skinny”, I did not look like I ate all the food that I did. I was fairly active and ran track (not fast, but I ran short distances), and I enjoyed the outdoors
I weighed 155 at 5’10” by the time I left high school.
My favorite place to eat was a hole in the wall all-you-could-eat Chinese Buffett.
I once ate 73 slices of pizza with no crust in a pizza-eating contest. What can I say? We were on the way back from a school competition trip and I am very competitive.
For prom my senior year in high school, we went to a fancy restaurant where they had a 7-course meal. By the 5th course, everyone else was full so I ended up eating 7 people’s steaks and desserts.
To drive this point home, when I went away to college my parents said that their grocery bill went down by 50% (and there were 4 other people in my house).
Things started to change in College. I learned one thing quickly in college: I cannot resist FREE food. It does not matter what food it was, if it was free, I ate it. You need me to sign up for a credit card to get a free pizza…where do I sign? You are holding a meeting for the “Boring Club”? If there is free food, I’m in.
This free food started to catch up with me. I put on the “Freshman 15” + 10. I was no longer active in any kind of sports and mostly spent time doing work on computers. It was not a recipe for keeping my weight down.
My first job out of school was working on computers out of someone’s basement. Fortunately, or perhaps, unfortunately, they gave us free snacks and we got money for food every time we traveled. The combined free food and the sedentary job helped me put on another 25 lbs.
Between having kids and working long hours, this food debt kept adding up to more and more weight, until I was 230 pounds. I knew I had to do something to get healthy again. I had a big family event coming up and knew that there would be pictures.
I did not want to have to look at those photos and be disgusted by looking at myself.
I had to do something about it.
I had tried the Timothy Ferriss’s “Slow Carb” diet with some success in the past but gained the weight back plus more when I stopped.
I had to find something that would stick.
So I pulled out trusty google and found and tried these diets…
- Paleo – This appears to be a good diet for living healthy, but it was not very successful in helping me lose weight.
- Calorie Counting – I used My Fitness Pro to count Calories and had some successes that I would squander at a party or restaurant on the weekend.
- Slow Carb – I just got tired of eating Lintels.
As a last resort, I started to look into the KETO diet. This was a diet I think that I could follow.
There is only one simple rule:
Avoid Carbs like you’re allergic!
Who does not like meat and a couple of select vegetables?
I gave myself 6 weeks to be very strict on the diet and I dropped 30 pounds. Most of the weight loss was prior to starting to work out again. When I did start working out it was mostly strength training for 15 minutes once a week.
The Keto Diet just WORKS! The fat melts off.
I love this diet and it is now a way of life for me. Those 6 weeks made a huge difference for me and I feel so much better.
If I can do it, you can too.
I want to share this diet with anyone that I can…
To your success,
Bryan Topscher “B-Top”
